  Rail Travel Adventures specializes in scenic train tours in the United States of America, Canada and Europe. We design, and operate unique, fully-escorted rail tours to some of the world's most scenic places. Our goal is  to assure that lovers of railroads (and those who simply want comfortable and interesting travel) have a more in-depth experience than they might find in generic bus tours. This remarkable tour explores the Adirondack, Catskill and Shawangunk Mountains at the fall color peak. Extended stays are included at Lake Placid, the Adirondack "Great Camp" Minnowbrook in Blue Mountain Lake, and the spectacular Mohonk Mountain House. Train journeys include Amtrak's ADIRONDACK along the shores of Lake Champlain and the ETHAN ALLEN EXPRESS down the grand canyon of the Hudson River. In the Adirondacks we enjoy two different journeys on the Adirondack Scenic RR, breakfast in vista-dome diner luxury on the new Saratoga and North Creek RR andOOa private luncheon in the diner on the chartered Delaware and Ulster RR through the heart of the Catskills.

Take this “classic” train tour on an exploration of the Colorado Rockies, riding standard and narrow gauge railways to summits of over 14,000 feet. Teddy Roosevelt described a Colorado train ride as “the trip that bankrupts the English language”! Even those with no interest in railways will love the remarkable vistas from Colorado’s trains. Non-rail sightseeing includes traveling through the mountains between Ouray and Telluride, ancient Anasazi Indian cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde National Park, ghost towns, and sublime scenery from vast deserts in the Great Sand Dunes National Park to the alpine peaks of Rocky Mountain National Park. We are now highlighting a new WINTER RAILS TOUR to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks from February 16-March 1, 2015. Included are rides on the steam-powered Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge RR, the New Mexico Rail Runner Express, and the Utah Front Runner regional rail services.  Also included are visits to Santa Fe NM and Salt Lake City, with travel on Amtrak's SOUTHWEST CHIEF and the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR across the Rockies. The experience of exploring Yellowstone National Park by Snowcoach in the depths of winter is truly amazing. Wildlife including moose, elk and buffalo are everywhere; and the geothermal wonders are stunningly displayed against the snow! A special treat is attending the Sunday morning live radio broadcast of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City UT.  
 

2015 TOUR PREVIEW:

In addition to the Winter Rails to Yellowstone Tour above, which is already over half full, the following tours are under development for 2015. These trips are still pending final confirmations from our supplier partners, so dates could change. Full details will be posted here as soon as all arrangements are confirmed.

August 9-22: A new tour--Great Lakes Circle Tour

Travel round-trip from Chicago thru Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ontario province in Canada. Ride steam trains and true steam-boats and experience unexpectedly dramatic scenery including Mackinac Island; vistas of Lakes Michigan, Huron and Superior; and the awesome Agawa Canyon by train. Stay at classic railway-era grand hotels including the the Palmer House in Chicago, the Royal York in Toronto and the Stafford's Perry Hotel in Petosky, MI. Highlights include crossing Lake Michigan on the true steam-powered S.S. Badger ferry, the Henry Ford Museum and rides on both narrow and standard gauge steam trains.

Late September: Colorado Autumn by Rail Tour

The classic rail tour of the Colorado Rockies returns as the aspen leaves turn to gold. Experience standard and narrow gauge trains, Mesa Verde and Great Sand Dunes National Parks, great history and scenery that Teddy Roosevelt said "bankrupts the English language"! Highlights include the legendary Silverton train, the Cumbres and Toltec RR over Cumbres Pass, luncheon in the diner while viewing the Royal Gorge and the ascent to the 14,000 foot summit of Pikes Peak by Swiss-built cog-wheel train.

October 1-13: A new tour--The Grand Fall Tour: New England AutumnExplore Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and a touch of Connecticut at the fall color peak. Our final tour spotlights the two-foot narrow gauge trains of Maine, lake cruises, Amtrak's Downeaster and Vermonter, with extended stays at fine hotels and country inns and our usual in-depth included sightseeing. Highlights include the Maine Coast Ry along the "rock-bound" shore of Maine, the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington two-foot gauge railway, a circuit cruise of Lake Winnipesaukee, the St. Gaudens National Historic Park, Vermont's Shelbourne Museum, lunch at the Trapp Family Lodge, the Mark Twain home and the recreation of 19th century New England at Old Sturbridge Village.
